LAGOS, Nigeria
– A talent hunt showcasing young and upcoming artistes has been held in Lagos. The second edition of the annual showpiece, organised by Ratatatainment Concepts, tagged, ‘As It Is Written’, had over 20 budding artistes who are ready to take the world by storm. According to Cynthia Emadomi, Manager, Ratatatainment Concepts, the event, which is in its second edition, has the potential to become bigger and better as plans were in top gear to notch up more partnerships and also ensure winning prizes were improved upon.

“This year’s event is tagged, ‘As It Is Written’, and of course, we’re in the second edition. This year’s event is bigger than the maiden edition and we intend to make it better. It usually holds in the last month of the last quarter annually. What we set out to do is to showcase these young talents by giving them a platform to express themselves both nationally and internationally, which is the target, in the long run.

“Though sponsorship has been a major challenge, quite understandably too, considering the situation in the country. We had thought of housing the artistes this year, you know…keep them together in a particular secluded location for proper monitoring. This is still in the offing of course, going forward. We’ll keep sending letters to prospective sponsors, exploring the social media, reaching out to offices in trying to get more sponsors.

“However, this year, we’re partnering with a record label, Don Silver Records. The top three winners also get radio productions. The artiste who comes first gets a video shoot, gets to record a song, a Kwese TV decoder, a radio and TV promotion for a year. He or she would also be partnering with an online distribution company called ‘Distribution Media’, to handle online distribution, such as iTunes, etc.,” Etomi said.

She added that the first runner up would also do two audio recordings, one year radio promotion, a satellite TV and an online distribution. She said the second runner up would be getting one audio recording, a year of radio promotion, one satellite TV and online distribution. All these, she stressed, would be done side-by-side the academic pursuits of the participants, as the intention is not to take them away from their studies but to complement it.

Also present at the event to lend his support was Teddy Don Momoh, husband to the late songstress, Kefee. He said he was ready to throw his full weight behind the event and said he would be producing the top thee winners.

Some of the sponsors of the event, which was convened by Ratatata of Wazobia FM, include Bionic Media Group, BMG, Garium and Kwese, among others.
