NETHERLANDS – Royal Dutch Shell paid Nigerian government a total sum of $4, 322, 742, 582 in form of production entitlements, taxes, royalties, fees and infrastructural improvements in the year 2017.




Shell made the revelation today in its 2017 sustainability reports made available to www.starconnectmedia.com. According to the reports, the Nigerian government received $3, 197, 530, 577 in production entitlements, $765,526,389 in taxes, $245,769,306 in royalties, $113,916,331 in fees, making a total of $4,322,742,582.

“The report outlines Shell’s approach to sustainability and covers the company’s social, safety and environmental performance in 2017”, Shell said in a statement, adding that it sets out how Shell is playing a role in the energy transition and details Shell’s contribution to society, which includes providing people with access to energy products.

The reports asserted that Shell contributes to economies by paying taxes, procuring local goods and services, hiring locally and supporting social investment programmes.

In his introduction to the 2017 Sustainability Report, Shell’s Chief Executive Officer Ben van Beurden said sustainability is essential to the way Shell does business. “Our Sustainability Report is an account of our progress in this area as we continue to deliver energy products society needs in the transition to a low-carbon world.”

This is the 21st edition of the Shell Sustainability Report, the report said, adding Shell has used external review panels to strengthen its sustainability reporting since 2005.

“They help the company evaluate the quality and credibility of the Sustainability Report and improve its reporting. The 2017 panel comprises six sustainability and corporate reporting experts. Shell has also published details of payments made to governments in 2017 in countries where it has upstream operations. This report, which details payments in 29 countries, is prepared in accordance with the UK’s Reports on Payments to Governments Regulations 2014”, she said.  To see the full report, go to www.shell.com/sustainabilityreport.
