ONLY 12 PEOPLE WERE KILLED BY HERDSMEN IN KOGI, NOT 35 – KOGI STATE GOVT
LOKOJA, Nigeria – Kogi State Government has said that only 12 people were killed by herdsmen who invaded Ogene Igu Community, Kogi at the weekend contrary to reports that 35 people were killed. The government also said that it visited the village to confirm the incident and that a villager whose uncle and wife were killed took government officials round all the huts that were touched and said that only 12 people died during the attack.
Director General, Kogi State Bureau of Information Services and Grassroots Sensitisation, Mr. Abdulkarim Abdulmalik who made the revelation via telephone call on Star Fm in Lagos said the villager took government officias to the grave were the 12 people were buried.
According to him, only 10 people were killed during the attack but that the remaining two died at a hospital after sustaining injuries from the onslaught.
He said that Kogi State is now calm and that there is heavy military presence in the state all combing the forest and that government is contemplating giving out emergency lines to enable people call when they notice any breach in security.
He said government has plans on the ground to compensate those who lost their homes, families and farmland when the herdsmen invaded the community.
