N39 MN FRAUD: COURT REMANDS KABIRU, BUREAU DE CHANGE OPERATOR IN CUSTODY
IKEJA, Lagos – Justice Sherifat Sholebo of a Special Offences Court in Ikeja today remanded a Bureau de Change operator, Mohammed Kabiru in prison custody following his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for alleged fraud to the tune of N39 million.
The judge gave the order pending the hearing of his bail application and determination of trial date. According to the anti graft agency, Mohammed Kabiru obtained money by false pretence with intent to defraud one Mr. Vincent Nwereme collected the sum N39 million from him and that he would pay the equivalence in dollars but failed to do so.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two count charges.In view of his plea, the prosecuting counsel, S.T. Ola asked the court for short adjourned date to commence trial.
On his part, the defence counsel, Mr. Okere informed the court that the prosecutor has not been able to respond to their bail application which was served on them last week. The matter has been adjourned till March 15, for ruling.
