EDITORIAL TSUNAMI SWEEPS ACROSS SUN NEWSPAPERS, 11 TOP EDITORS SACKED
LAGOS, Nigeria – The crisis in the media has worsened, this time landing at the doorsteps of Sun Newspapers, where management has laid off about 11 top editors in a major move to reposition the newspaper.
Those affected are mainly top editors, whose contribution to the production of the newspaper are quite minimal, sources have said. We gather that the newspaper, which has been dubbed top heavy in terms of high wage earners on the top has impacted negatively on the fortune of the newspaper.
Other newspapers dubbed as top heavy include Vanguard, Thisday, The Nation and The Guardian newspapers, many of which are no longer able to pay salaries as and when due.
Those sacked in the Sun Newspapers, include Managing Director/ Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, Mr. Steve Nwosu, Executive Director, Special Duties, Mr. Bolaji Tunji(resigned), Editor, Special Duties and Editor Sunday, Abdulfatah Oladeinde.
Others are Sports Editor, George Aluo, General Manager Finance, Obioma Ogukwe, General Manager, Human Resources/Admin, Ogechi Uche and Johnson Ogwumike, Senior Manager, Internal Audit.
The exercise, we gathered was part of ongoing efforts to reposition the newspaper to meet with the challenges in the newspaper industry.
