INNOCENT CHUKWUMA (INNOSON) IS EVADING SERVICE, EFCC TELLS COURT AS ARRAIGNMENT FAILS
IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – Chairman Innoson Motors Nigeria Limited, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma is evading service, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) today told Justice Mojisola Dada of a Lagos High Court.
Counsel to the EFCC, Miss Zainab Ettu told the court that the automobile businessman and his co-defendants were evading service when the commission failed in its bid to arraign the business tycon for allegations of fraud and forgery.
In response, counsel to the defendants, Mr Audrey Onwukwe, argued that EFCC knows where they reside, having arrested and granted the second defendant, Innocent Chukwuma bail on self recognisance. Chukwuma was to be arraigned alongside his company and Charles Chukwuma.
The defendants were to be arraigned on a four count charge of conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses, stealing and forgery. The presiding judge, Justice Mojisola Dada ordered EFCC counsel to pass an advanced copy of the charge to Onwukwe as a form of service.
Mr. Onwukwe, however objected, saying that he could not accept the advanced copy of the charge as a form of service to the defendants saying that he had filed an application challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear the case. Justice Dada adjourned the case till February 9 for possible arraignment.
