COURT SLAMS N1.5 M BAIL ON MAN WHO DEFILED 3 YEAR OLD GIRL
IKEJA, Lagos – A magistrate court sitting in Ikeja,,Lagos has slamed N500, 000 bail on a 23-year-old man, Sunday Oyedele who allegedly defiled a three year old girl. Magistrates Bolanle Osunsanmi who gave the ruling asked the suspect to also provide two sureties in like sum.
She said one of the surties must be a blood relation and must also show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government. The suspect, Sunday Oyedele who resides at Awolowo Road, Itamaga Ikorodu, Lagos was arraigned on a count of defilement .
Sunday, had pleaded not guilty to the one count charge preferred against him by the police when the charge was reading to him in English language. He however, applied for bail through his counsel, Mr. Sunny Oyekan.
While applying for bail, Oyekan informed the court that the suspect will not jump bail and will be in court as at when due. Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP. Simeon Inhonwa , had told the court that the suspect committed the offences on November 10, at about 3.00 p.m. at his residence.
He said the three years old victim, (names withheld) lives in the same house where the suspect perpetrated the act. Inhonwa who informed the court that he has three witness in the matter, including the young victim, said that the age of the victim makes the act allegedly committed by the suspect so saddening and that the offence is punishable under the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
The matter was thereafter adjourned until January 26, 2018 for mention.
