LAGOS, Nigeria – Kebbi Beach Soccer club Abdullahi Isa has insisted that his side will not be intimidated by English champions Arsenal and others as they compete for glory at the 2017 Copa Lagos tournament.

Kebbi, who emerged runners-up at the Sallah Beach Soccer tournament, are debutants and will play alongside Arsenal, Gidi Sharks and Pepsi Football Academy at the seventh edition. The Birnin Kebbi based side are the first northern club to feature in the club competition at the three-day showpiece holding from December 8-10, 2017 at the Eko Atlantic City.

And the former Supersand Eagles goalkeeper turned coach is hoping his side will make an impressive outing, especially when they face the English side in Lagos.

He said: “I see this as our first major tournament that we want to approach with the mindset of being organised, though considered outsiders we must have the right mentality and we want to get a result.

“We’re not looking up to the oppositions, we could play against any team. We know Arsenal are world class and they look favourites to win, but we are going to come to this game with the same mentality.

“We have prepared well and had several training games. This tournament is important for us and we hope to make a statement and a successful ending,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Kebbi beach soccer team arrived in Lagos on Wednesday ahead of Friday’s opener against Arsenal before they face Gidi Sharks and later Pepsi.
