ARBOR NETWORKS, FACTORS THAT ISOLATE AWARD WINNING DDOS PROVIDER
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Arbor Networks announced recently that its Arbor Cloud solution has been selected as the winner of the ‘Managed Security Solution of the Year’ award from CyberSecurity Breakthrough, an independent organisation that recognises the top companies, technologies and products in today’s global information security market.
The intention of the CyberSecurity Breakthrough Awards is to honour excellence and recognise innovation in a number of information security categories, including cloud security, threat detection, risk management, fraud prevention, and mobile and e-mail security.
Bryan Hamman, Arbor Network’s territory manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, notes that this year’s entry attracted more than 2,000 nominations from some 12 countries. All nominations were evaluated by an independent panel of experts within the information security industry. He says, “Arbor Cloud represents the best in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection, in which multiple compromised computer systems target a server, website or other network resource, thereby causing a denial of service for users of the targeted resource. This Arbor Cloud award, acknowledging the company’s leadership in the DDoS arena, can be attributed to its industry leading scale, automated threat intelligence, custom workflows and customer-focused reporting.”
In Arbor Networks’ fight against DDoS attacks, a few key aspects are showcased, including its size, automation capabilities, customising of workflow, and reporting, as follows:
Industry leading scale: Arbor Cloud has 4Tbps of mitigation capacity dedicated to DDoS protection. By distributing capacity globally, attacks can be mitigated more quickly and closer to the source. This distributed model enables customer traffic to stay in-region and, in some cases, in-country. This allows for quicker remediation and also provides additional value by addressing emerging data privacy considerations on cloud service providers.
Automated threat intelligence: Arbor APS is enhanced by threat intelligence via the ATLAS Intelligence Feed (AIF). Developed by Arbor’s Security Engineering and Response Team (ASERT), the AIF includes geo-location data and automates the identification of attacks from known botnets and malware, while ensuring that updates for new threats are automatically delivered without intrusive software upgrades. By working in unison with the AIF, Arbor APS can also block outbound threats, helping prevent data exfiltration.
Custom workflows: The Arbor Cloud team takes the time to understand its customers’ processes and has the flexibility to work within them.
Customer-focused reporting: Arbor takes a proactive, consultative approach that leverages global threat intelligence as the basis for recommendations to improve a customer’s security posture, and supplies executive-level reporting that demonstrates return on investment and key metrics to executives.
Hamman concludes, “At Arbor, we do not underestimate how difficult DDoS defence can be, and look at operational aspects holistically, including transparency of operations, detailed reports on attacks and mitigations, and executive level reporting. Arbor Cloud is ideal for businesses that realise they need DDoS protection, but which may not have the resources or personnel to manage the solution themselves.”
