NNPC MANAGEMENT STAFF ARRAIGNED FOR ABUSING HOUSEMAID

IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – A management staff of NNPC, Betty Ifeoma was today arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates Court, sitting in Ikeja for abusing her 13- years old house help by locking her up for weeks.




The 47-years old suspect was arraigned on three count charge of assault and maltreatment before Magistrates B.O Osunsanmi. She however denied the allegations levelled against her by the police.

According to the prosecutor, Supol Simeon Imhonwa, Betty committed the offence at No. 30, Adeniran street Akaka, Estate, Anthony Village Lagos.
“The suspect, Betty Ifeoma brutalized her house maid, Nkechi Oseh and locked her up in the house for a whole week while she travelled out of the country. The accused who locked up her 13-years old maid against her wish, has been depriving her of her liberty.”

The prosecutor further told the court that the accused abandoned her poor maid Nkechi Oseh by exposing her to grievous harm.

“The accused, Betty Ifeoma also inflicted injuries all over the body of her thirteen years old victim and this was visible when she was rescued,” he said. According to him, the offences contravenes sections 272, 249, 172 of the Lagos criminal law of Lagos state 2015.

The Magistrates, Mrs. Osunsanmi granted the accused bail in the sum of 50,000 with two surties. Osunsanmi also ruled that the surties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of two years tax payment to Lagos State.

The matter was thereafter adjourned till Nov.28, 2017. Recalled that the Lagos State Police Command rescued the 13-year-old housemaid who was locked up while her guidian traveled out of the country.

The acting Police Commissioner in Lagos State, Edgal Imohimi, has led a team of operatives to rescue a 13-year-old housemaid, Nkechi Oseh, who was locked indoors for weeks by her madam who traveled to the United Kingdom.

The victim, Nkechi told the police that she has been locked up on four different occasions since her uncle brought her from Delta State to stay with Ifeoma and she has been surviving through the foods neighbours pass to her through the burglar and she sometimes drink water from the toilet when she is thirty.
