48 KILLED BY CHOLERA IN BORNO AS NIGERIA RECORDS 2, 627 INCIDENTS
BORNO, Nigeria – Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) also known as doctors without borders has said that 2, 627 cases of Cholera have been recorded in Nigeria since its outbreak in Nigeria.
The organisation which made the revelation on Tweeter also said that 48 people have died in Borno since the outbreak of the ailment.
“Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare.
” MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. Our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of neutrality and impartiality”, the organisation which has been working in Northern Nigeria in Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs said.
Cholera is a serious bacterial disease that causes severe diarrhea and dehydration. it is spread through contaminated water. In severe cases, immediate treatment is necessary because death can occur within hours.
Cholera is caused by bacteria called Vibrio cholerae and contaminated water supplies are the primary source of cholera infection. Uncooked fruits, vegetables, and other foods can also contain the bacteria that cause cholera.
