WILLIE OBIANO EMERGES NIGERIA’S BEST PERFORMING GOVERNOR
ANAMBRA, Nigeria – The Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano has emerged winner in a keenly contested online poll conducted by the African Leadership Magazine UK. Mr. Obiano polled 72. 7 percent of the total votes cast to win the Good Governance Poll 2017, ahead of Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor of Lagos State, who maintained the second position with 16.5 percent.
The Poll, which commenced at 10.45am, on Monday, July 10, 2017, and closed at 4.00pm, on Friday, July 28, 2017, is a strategic engagement tool designed to rate the performances of Nigerian Governors, in line with the Magazine’s mandate of providing credible information, celebrating exemplary leadership, and outstanding performance, fostering greater socio-economic development in Nigeria, and improving the quality of lives of the people.
The Publisher of the magazine, Ken Giami , in announcing the winners of the Good Governance Poll, states that “Willie Obiano, Governor of Anambra State is the winner of the Good Governance Poll 2017, having polled 72.7% of votes cast. He is therefore declared Nigeria’s Best Performing Governor 2017.”
Giami commended Obiano’s commitment to the sustainable development of Anambra State, with the successes recorded in achieving his administration’s four point agenda in the state, which is anchored on Mechanised Agriculture, Oil and Gas, Trade and Commerce, and industrialization.
“We truly commend Obiano as a true African leader and performer. His achievements cut across road infrastructure, security, and most profoundly, the economy. He has placed his state as a destination for investors to thrive, which has resulted to job creation, support for entrepreneurship and enterprise development.”
“Topping Ambode, Wike and other five (5) performing Governors in this poll is an indication that Obiano has risen to the occasion, and Nigerians are aware of his strides in Anambra State. The African Leadership Magazine will continue to support and partner with the Governor in realizing his vision for the state” the publisher noted.
The magazine nominated 8 Governors for the poll, based on their performances in four (4) core criteria- Security, Economy, Infrastructure, and Accountability. The nominees are: Umar Ganduje, Governor of Kano State; Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State; Aminu Tambuwal, Governor of Sokoto State; Rochas Okorocha, Governor of Imo State; Kashim Shettima, Governor of Borno State; Ben Ayade, Governor of Cross Rivers State; as well as Willie Obiano, Governor of Anambra State, and Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor of Lagos State
Governor Obiano will be conferred with the African Leadership Excellence Award and decorated with “Nigeria’s Best Performing Governor 2017” Medal, during the magazine’s International Summit on African Leadership, billed to hold on September 21st, at the margins of the United Nations 72nd General Assembly, New York, USA. Obiano will also be presented with endorsement from various US States and non-state actors, and hosted to Investment & Partnership discussions on the side-lines of the event.
The Magazine’s Good Governance Poll was initiated in 2016 with the aim of promoting good governance and engendering healthy competition between Nigerian governors towards delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Nigeria.
