LAGOS, Nigeria – Mr. Obeahon Ohiwerei today assumed office as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Keystone Bank Limited.

He is assuming office four months after the expiration of the tenure of Mr. Hafiz Bakare, Acting Managing Director of the Bank on April 1, 2017.

Bakare was appointed MD in March 2017 by new owners of the bank made up of Sigma Golf Nigeria Limited and Riverbank Investment Resources Limited.

Speaking at the formal introduction of Ohiwerei to members of staff, the outgone MD/CEO, Bakare said Ohiwerei was apointed following regulatory approval.

According to him, Ohiwerei comes with significant experience having served in similar capacity in both domestic and transnational financial institution and will bring his wealth of experience to bear in his leadership as Managing Director/CEO of Keystone Bank.

He thanked the new owners of the bank for the confidence reposed in him and his colleagues and called on staff to be guided by core values such as ethics, intergrity, personal and institutional discipline.

The new owners of the bank according to Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON emerged preferred bidder after the acquisition of the bank’s shares and the mandatory regulatory approvals from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

AMCON said the process leading to the acquisition started with interest shown by 18 parties cutting across local and international investors.

“The emergence of the Sigma Golf-Riverbank consortium resulted from a rigorous and competitive bidding process, which was coordinated for AMCON by Citibank Nigeria Limited, its affiliates and FBN Capital (Joint Financial Advisers) as well as Banwo & Ighodalo and Crosswrock Law (Joint Legal Advisers),” ANCON said.
