MOSCOW, Russia – A court in Moscow has fined one its citizen, Viktor Nochevnov, 50, 000 Rubles, about $830 for posting the carricature of Jesus Christ on his social media platform.
In the opinion of the court, Nochevnov, 32, has been expressing intolerance to Christianity “due to a lack of established principles for conduct and well-formed critical skills.”
He is believed to be opposed to universal social norms and values and became aggressive towards believers”.
Nochevnov was said to have published on his social media page seven caricatures including Jesus Christ hanging from a pull-up bar and dancing in a stadium, or represented as a weight-lifter in front of the Olympic rings, according to Popkov.
He was said to have made the publication between October 20, 2014 and August 31, 2015, during Christian holidays.
Nochevnov pleads not guilty. The ruling will be appealed, the lawyer added.
