HURRICANE HARVEY HAS HAD CATASTROPHIC IMPACT ON TEXANS, PROPERTIES -GOV ABBOTT
TEXAS, United States – Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott on Saturday visited Texas which has been at the receiving end of Hurricane Harvey.
He and his wife cisited Texans seeking refuge from Hurricane Harvey at a Red Cross Shelter in Austin, Texas. The Governor and First Lady also toured the shelter and helped serve dinner to Texans staying there.
During his visit, the Governor and First Lady reassured storm victims that the State of Texas is doing everything possible to assist in the recovery effort and ensure resources are available to victims in the coming days and weeks.
Earlier in the day, Governor added 20 additional Texas counties to his State Disaster Declaration to allow Texas to quickly deploy all available resources to those affected by this devastating storm.
These counties include: Atascosa, Bexar, Brazos, Caldwell, Cameron, Comal, Grimes, Guadalupe, Hardin, Jasper, Kerr, Lee, Leon, Madison, Montgomery, Newton, Tyler, Walker, Washington, and Willacy.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Abbott said Hurricane Harvey has had a catastrophic impact on Texans and their property, and that this declaration will help them rebuild and recover.
“Although these Texans have suffered a great hardship, their warmth and resiliency is truly inspiring,” said Governor Abbott. “The true heart of Texas is its people, and through this very trying time, I have no doubt we will emerge stronger than ever. These amazing families are a much needed reminder of the Texas spirit as we battle this storm.”
