NPFL: RIVERS UNITED GOES DOWN 0 – 1 IN MAKURDI
MAKURDI, Nigeria – Rivers United’s poor form away from home continued on Friday as they suffered a 0-1 defeat to Lobi Stars in a rearranged Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game decided on Friday at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi.
Second half substitute, Nanen Imenger scored the winner, six minutes from the end with a stunning header off an excellent Solomon Kwambe delivery despite Femi Thomas’ best efforts to keep it out.
United defended stoutly for most parts and looked full value for a share of the spoils especially after Thomas guessed right to push out Anthony Opkotu’s spot kick in the 64th minute.
Lobi dominated the first half headlined by the Rivers United captain, Festus Austine picking up an injury which now means he is a doubt for the club’s Caf Confederation Cup game against Ugandan club, KCCA next Tuesday.
Lobi Stars head coach, Solomon Ogbeide and the technical manager of Rivers United technical manager, Stanley Eguma spoke to our official website, www.riversunitedfc.com.ng after the game (audio files have been attached).
The win sees Lobi Stars move up to third in the NPFL log with 39 points from 25 matches. Rivers United remain in 15th place with 30 points from 24 matches.
