ONE DEAD, 16 RESCUED AS BUILDING COLLAPSES IN LAGOS
ILASA, Lagos, Nigeria – At least one person has been confirmed dead, while 16 others have been rescued from an uncompleted building that collapsed at Nos 6 Richard Abimbola Street, Ilasa, Lagos on Thursday.
Most of those rescued suffered severe injuries and are now undergoing treatment at a general hospital in Lagos.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, the building collasped at 2pm on Thursday while labourers were busy working on site.
Rescue operation was still in progress as at the time of filling this report. Speaking on the incident, General Manager, LASEMA, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu said LASAMBUS is on ground to attend to the injured and take them to hospital when needed.
“Situation report on collapse building at Richard abimbola ilasa bus stop. On getting to the scene of incident it was reveal that an uncompleted building at no 6 , Richard Abimbola street collapsed while unknown number of labourer were doing their various works at different areas.
“Further investigation revealed that the building collapsed at around 2pm as 14 of the labourers as been rescued and some are been treated by the agency’s medical team and LASAMBUS(LAGOS STATE AMBULANCE SERVICE) while some had been rushed to the hospital. Extraction of trapped victims on going and no mortality recorded at the moment. Update, 16 rescued, one dead”, he said in a statement.
