EKOBANK DRIVER, AWOBUTU ARRESTED FOR RECKLESS DRIVING
OBALENDE, Lagos, Nigeria – An Ecobank driver, Awotunde Awobutu has been arrested by men of the Nigeria police at Lion Building for reckless driving.
The driver whose vehicle rammed into another car belonging to a female Lagos based lawyer was said to have been driving against traffic when the incident occurred.
Awobutu was driving Ecobank official car with plate number LSR 615 CK when he rammed into the car. The 51-year-old man was accused of dangerous driving on the highway with expired driver’s license.
Awobutu driver’s license had expired since 2013 and had been driving for the past 3-years without been apprehended. The incident is believed to have happened at Sangross Market area of Lagos.
The driver allegedly refused to stop and instead increased his speed and drove away. The lawyer had to chase him until they found him at a busy traffic signal trying to pass through the traffic jam.
He was apprehended and handed over to the police as he tried to overtake one car in order to escape. No one was injured in the crash but the car of the second driver was damaged.
An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Uche, said he was coming out of a petroleum station about 5pm on Friday when the incident happened. He was later released when passersby pleaded on his behalf.
