CASH FOUND IN LAGOS: EFCC INTENSIFIES SEARCH OF FLATS IN 16 OSBORNE
LAGOS, Nigeria – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has intensified search of flats situated at Nos. 16 Osborne, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria, where $43.4m, £27,800 and N23.2 million was found.
The money, according to EFCC was found in flat 7B. So far EFCC has not been able to pin the money to anybody. All we had has been speculation. Some said it belonged to former PDP chairman, Alhaji Muazu, some said it belongs to former NNPC MD, Mrs. Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue and media mogul and founder of Ebony Life Television, Mo Abudu alleged to be the girlfriend of Minister for Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi.
On Tuesday, EFCC searched flats of the former Anambra state governor, Peter Obi, alongside that of the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Mu’azu.
It was gathered that all the flats were searched including the ones that were being occupied. In authenticating the development in a statement, Obi’s media aide, Valentine Obienyem, insisted that all the apartments in the towers were searched by the anti-graft agency.
The media aide further confirmed that the Osborne apartment was rented as the former governor’s home is located in Onitsha, Anambra state.
Obienyem added: The media aide to former Governor, Mr. Peter Obi has confirmed the search by the EFCC of Flat 1, occupied by the former governor in the building where the agency discovered large sums of money.
“The apartment was rented by the wife of the former governor and it is where Mr. Obi usually stays anytime he is in Lagos.
“Even though Mr. and Mrs Obi had travelled to the USA and the UK for speaking engagements, when we relayed the message of the search to him, he quickly sent the keys to the four-bedroom apartment to the EFCC via courier.
“He even left instructions that we should allow them to also search his Onitsha residence should there be a need for that. After the thorough search, nothing was found in the apartment.” It would be recalled that the EFCC had discovered the lump sum of N13bn in flat 7B of the building.
