TOKYO, Japan – A Japanese Suchi chain boss has offered to purchase a 212 kilogram bluefin tuna fish for 74.2 million Yen, about $632,000 at a Tokyo Tsukji market auction, CNBC has reported.

The bid is seen as the highest in sales of species of bluefin tuna fish in Tokyo. In January 2012, a 269 kilogram bluefin tuna sold for a world record of $736,000 in a Japanese fish market.

The Atlantic bluefin tuna is one of the largest, fastest, and most gorgeously colored of all the world’s fishes, National Geographic said on its website adding that their torpedo-shaped, streamlined bodies are built for speed and endurance.

“Their coloring—metallic blue on top and shimmering silver-white on the bottom—helps camouflage them from above and below. And their voracious appetite and varied diet pushes their average size to a whopping 6.5 feet (2 meters) in length and 550 pounds (250 kilograms), although much larger specimens are not uncommon”, it said.

The bluefin tuna fish is regarded as a highly delicious species of fish in Japan.
