ADAMA BARROW SWORN IN AS PRESIDENT OF GAMBIA
DAKAR, Senegal – Embattled President-elect of Gambia, Adama Barrow was today sworn in as President of Gambia. He was sworn in at an unknown location at about 5 pm.
He was sworn-in at the Gambian embassy in Dakar, Senegal.
“This is a victory of the Gambian nation. Our national flag will fly high among those of the most democratic nations of the world. #Gambia”, Barrow said on tweeter.
He succeeds Alhaji Yahya Jammeh, who lost in the 1 December presidential election but has elongated his stay via a state of emergency backed by parliament.
It is not clear what step Jammeh would now take but observers see the development as an invitation to war should. Already warships from Nigeria, Senegal and other countries in the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS are already within striking range in Gambian territorial waters.
