Washington – President-elect of the United States, Donald J Trump has hailed the Electoral College system, describing it as actually genius.
Donald Trump secured 290 electoral votes while Hilary Clinton secured just 232 electoral votes.
But in terms of popular votes, Trump of the Republican Party secured 60,526,852, while Hilary Clinton of the Democratic Party secured 61,324,576.
But Trump won having secured the highest vote in Electoral College votes. This development may have been responsible for pockets of protest immediately Trump was announced winner of the election.
But explaining the situation, Trump said he went directly for electoral college hence he refused to campaign in New York, , Florida and California.
“If the elections were based on total popular votes I would have campaigned in N. Y., Florida and California and won even bigger and more easily”, he said in the social media, adding that “Electoral college is actually a genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones into play, campaigning is much different”, he said.
