Nigeria, Oct 8, 2016 – Rivers United technical manager, Stanley Eguma and club captain, Festus Austin have sent words of appreciation to the Rivers State Governor, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike (CON) for his plans to host the team to a grand reception.

Players and officials of Rivers United will be hosted at the Rivers State Government House on Saturday following their impressive showing in the just concluded Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
United finished in second place with 60 points from 30 matches and secure a ticket to represent Nigeria in the Caf Champions League in 2017.
“I want to thank the Governor for this show of magnanimity because it will go a long way to motivating the boys to do even more.The Governor has been our number one supporter and we wanted to win the trophy for him. We gave it our best shot, just about fell short but we will try harder to go one better next season,” Eguma told RIVERSUNITED MEDIA.
On his part, captain, Austin said he is not surprised at the development as the Governor has always proved to be a lover of football.
“I am not surprised because the Governor loves football and success. I thank the Governor for the planned reception and I am very happy about it,” he said. Rivers United, founded on February 19, 2016 will be competing in the Caf Champions League for the first time in their history.
