A backpack, not the one containing the bomb

Washington, Oct 14, 2016 – The Federal Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday found a backpack with an Improvised Explosive Device in front of Nederland Police Station.

“Early yesterday morning, a Nederland police officer discovered a backpack in front of the Nederland Police Department and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office substation, located in western Boulder County”, the FBI said in a statement, adding that the Caribou Ridge Shopping Center and the area surrounding it were evacuated as a safety precaution.


“The Boulder County Regional Bomb Squad responded, along with FBI bomb techs”, the FBI said adding that preliminary indications are that the improvised explosive device (IED) was active, but failed to detonate.

“A joint investigation is being conducted by the FBI, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, and the Nederland Police Department”, the statement added and that due to the ongoing investigation, no other information can be released at this time.
