Abuja, Sep 28, 2016 – House of Representatives today suspended the former Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abdulmumini Jibrin for a period of 180 legislative days, just a day less than one year.
The lawmakers are required to sit for 181 days in a year. The Yakubu Dogara-led house also barred Jibrin from holding positions of responsibility till the end of the 8th Assembly.
Jibrin had alleged that the national budget was padded to the tune of N30 billion by Speaker of the House, Dogara and three other principal officers while the house was on recess and forwarded same to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) which has looked the other way up till this moment.
The house resumed only for members to trivialize his allegation, with almost all of them taking side with the accused.
Sensing the drift of the committee, Jibrin said on the social media that he will not attend the hearing of the ethic committee, which he sees already has a bias for the speaker, most especially when members were among those he had indicted in one way or the other.
Jibrin specifically objected to the Chairmanship of Hon. Ossai Nicholas Ossai and membership of Hon. Herman Hembe from Benue State, some of whom he indicted in the Budget padding deal.
The committee did not however waste time in ruling that Jibrin’s attitude contravenes Order 6, rules 1-4 of the House Standing Order and Chapter 9, paragraph 3 of the Code of Conduct rules of the House and sent him on leave for one year.
