Nigeria, Sept. 26, 2016 – At least one person has been confirmed dead when a tanker laden with 33,000 litres of fuel belonging to Forte Oil Plc fell on a Hyundai saloon car at Ikorodu roundabout, killing the only occupant on the spot.
FORTE OIL TANKER KILLS ONE IN LAGOS
According to officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency(LASEMA) preliminary report revealed that the Mack Truck with registration number AGL 664 XG fell due to overspending, while trying to turn at the Round About and fell on a Hyundai Saloon Car with registration number KJA 421 AH with only one occupant unidentified.
“Preliminary report revealed that a Mack Truck with registration number AGL 664 XG laden with 33,000 litre PMS belonging to Forte Oil due to overspending of the driver, while trying to turn at the Round About fell on another Hyunda Saloon Car with registration number KJA 421 AH with only occupant unidentified adult male trapped dead in the car’’, the LASEMA General Manager Mr. Adesina Tiramisu said in a statement.
According to him, prompt response of the Emergency responders and the security operatives which includes Lagos State Fire Service, LASTMA, Civil Defense, FRSC and The Nigeria Police force to the scene for recovery operation prevented the incident from escalating into a major disasaster.
“The truck was carefully lifted upright, while the dead body was extricated by the LASEMA Response Team with the use of light duty equipments and subsequently taken to Ikorodu General Hospital Mortuary by LASEMA ERT, FRSC and the Nigerian Police Force from Ikorodu Division. The accidented vehicles were cleared off the road and handed to the Nigerian Police Force’’, he said, stressing that proper investigation would be carried out on cause of the accident by the relevant government agencies.
He however advised motorists especially articulated truck drivers to avoid over speeding and also adhere to all traffic rules and regulation to avoid incident such as this.
