Nigeria, Sept., 12, 2016 – Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Steve Oruh, has expressed confidence that nothing would stop the victory of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the postponed governorship election of Edo State.
Oruh, a staunch member of the PDP from Delta State and former National Vice Chairman, South-South zone of the party, said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has not done anything impressive in Edo and at the federal level to guarantee its success in the forthcoming gubernatorial poll in the state.
“I believe PDP will definitely win. This is the view of most people who are of the opinion that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government has failed Nigerians at both the state and national levels. Those who were fooled by their change mantra now know better. People clamoured for change thinking that it would better their lives, not knowing that APC would turn out to be rudderless and drag the nation into recession.
“Nigerians are hungry and angry. From what is on ground and what people are now saying, APC will certainly lose the election in Edo State any time it is held, even if it is conducted 10 times. APC knows this too well and that is why it schemed, in a conspiratorial fashion for the postponement of the election on the flimsy excuse of insecurity,” Oruh said.
He added that “The question a lot of people are asking is: If the security agents in Nigeria, the giant of Africa cannot provide security in one state having a governorship election, out of 36 states, how do they intend to do so during presidential election or other elections that cut across Nigeria on the same day? Election is not a do or die affair. Nigerians should be given the opportunity for free and fair elections to choose their leaders.”
The Edo State governorship election, initially scheduled for September 10, 2016, was postponed to September 28, 2016 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as a result of security concerns raised by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and State Security Service (SSS).
