Nigeria Vs Honduras clash at the Rio 2016 Olympic




Rio, August 20, 2016 – Nigeria on Saturday picked her first medal at the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympic Games, after the Nigerian Under 23 lads coached by Samson Siasia beat Honduras 3:2 to pick the bronze medal.

The coach Samson Siasia boys opened scores in the 34th minutes through Sadiq Umar through a pass by captain Mikel Obi. Another striker, Aminu Umar made it 2:0 in the 49th minutes and Sadiq Umar was on target again in the 55th minutes when he found the Honduras net through an assist from Mikel Obi.

But Lozano gave hope to the Honduras team when he scored the first goal for his side in the 70th minutes to make it 3:1. That goal was like a tonic that the Honduras team needed to dare the Nigerian team and it was not too long before Pereira made it 3:2 in the 86th minutes.

The Nigerian lad however managed to contain the boys till the 90th minutes to take home the bronze.
But while it was good news at the Olympic, it was bad news in Niger Republic where the Nigerian Under 17 team lost 3:1 to Niger Republic to make it 3:2 on aggregate in favour of Niger Republic.

With this score, the Nigerian Under 17 team is now out of the tournament.
