DICKSON TO APC: GO AND BRING FEDERAL PRESENCE TO BAYELSA

Nigeria, August 1, 2016 – Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson has called on his political opponents, the All Progressives Congress (APC) to use their contacts to bring federal appointments and projects to the state rather than embarking on divisive tendencies polarise the people.

He also criticised the non-inclusion of Bayelsans at the federal level in line with the federal character principle. According to him, Bayelsa State deserves adequate representation considering the fact that it contributes immensely to the national economy.

The Governor, according to a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, made the observation during the State Monthly Praise Night at the Palace of Melchizedek, in Toru Orua his hometown, Sagbama LGA of the state.

Dickson who noted that the time had come for all Bayelsans to key into the restoration agenda, also extended a hand of fellowship to members of the main opposition party to close ranks with his administration in actualizing the vision of the restoration agenda.

The governor said his political opponents still remain brothers and sisters, stressing that the state requires the collective efforts of all stakeholders irrespective of party affliations to enable it make progress.

While restating that the task of developing the state is a collective one, he said that Bayelsa has had enough distractions and divisions, particularly when the country is grappling with daunting economic challenges.

Acknowledging the fact that power comes neither from the east nor west but from God, the Governor noted that he has been able to overcome his tribulations by the grace of God as evident in the recent verdict at the election petition tribunal.

He also thanked the people of the state for their show of support and enjoined them to pray relentlessly for the state government and the country as a whole, assuring that Bayelsa is on course.Earlier in a brief sermon titled, “When God Shows Up In Your Life,” Reverend Godspower Asingba, emphasized that the essence of the Monthly Praise Night was to appreciate God for His blessings and mercies upon the state.

The cleric urged the people of the state to re-dedicate themselves to the service of God and mankind and imbibe the values that would get them closer to God.

Highlights of the event include the rendition of some songs of praise by Governor Dickson and his wife, Dr. Rachel.
The congregation read the state memory verse for the year 2016 which was taken from Psalms, chapter 35 verse 4 and 6.
