Lagos, Nigeria, July 11, 2016 – The newly appointed Chairman, Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Hon. Justice Ayotunde Adeyoola Philips says the commission would soon embark on a tour of the 57 Local Government/Local Council Development Areas in the state.
LASIEC TO TOUR 57 LAGOS COUNCILS
Speaking at a meeting with Electoral Commissioners and the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, the Chairman said the purpose of the tour is to enable members of the Commission familiarize themselves with the terrain in the various parts of the state in preparation for the conduct of the next election into the 57 Local Government/Local Council Development Areas.
She added that that the tour would also afford members the opportunity to assess the state of offices allocated to Electoral Officers of the Commission in the various local government and local council development areas (LG & LCDAs).
Ayotunde Phillips promised that the commission would conduct free, fair and credible elections into the LG & LCDAs.
Similarly, at a meeting with management staff of the Commission, the Chairman assured staff that their welfare would be given priority and urged them to be honest and transparent in their operations to enable the Commission achieve its mission of conducting credible and acceptable elections.
The Chairman called on the staff to support and cooperate with the Commission in its drive to conduct free, fair and credible elections into the Local Government and Local Council Development Areas of the State and warned that the Commission would not tolerate laziness and other forms of misconduct from staff. Responding on behalf of the staff, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Olumide Lawal, congratulated the Chairman on the new appointment, promising that the staff are ready to redouble their efforts in order to assist the Commission in achieving its set objectives.
The newly appointed Chairman, who succeeds Justice Afolabi Abdul- Fatai Adeyinka, wasrecently sworn in alongside four new Electoral Commissioners of the Commission by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
The four newly appointed Electoral Commissioners are Mr. Lateef Raji, Mr. Ayedun Olusegun Fasu, Chief (Mrs.) Toyin Ibrahim- Famakinwa and Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi.
The Chairman and the four members are to work with two incumbent Electoral Commissioners, Mr. Deoye Ogundipe and Mr. Olalekan Mabinuori and the Permanent Secretary to conduct the next elections into the 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas of the State.
