Nigeria, July 15, 2016 – The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested wife of the embattled former Minister of State for Defence, Alhaja Moroophat Obanikoro.
DSS ARRESTS OBANIKORO AS FANI-KAYODE GAINS FREEDOM
The EFCC few weeks ago ransacked apartment of the former Minister and carted away documents and vehicles.
Saharareporters reported that the suspect was arrested in front of her husband’s house located on Layi Ajayi-Bembe Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos on Thursday in connection with the N4.7bn allegedly diverted from the Office of the National Security Adviser.
But while it is bad news for Obanikoro, it was good tidings for former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode who has finally been set free by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC).
We gathered that he has been released by the EFCC. Last week, a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos granted the former minister and two others on trial with him N250 million bail each and two sureties in lie sum. The sureties were required to have landed properties in Lagos to be verified by the EFCC.
Media Adviser to the former minister, Jude Ndukwe told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Fani-Kayode was released Friday evening, and that he was likely to travel from Lagos to Abuja later tonight.
“Yes, he’d confirmed to me that he’d been released,” Mr. Ndukwe said in a brief telephone exchange at 7:13 p.m. “It’s still possible he might come to Abuja tonight if he’s able to”, he told the online newspaper.
