Nigeria, June 2, 2016 – Not less than 27 people have been confirmed dead from injuries arising from snakebite in Taraba State, Northern Nigeria.

Those affected are all from Donga Local Government in Taraba and they were said to have died from various injuries sustained from the snakebites.

We gathered that besides those dead, some who were lucky to be alive after suffering attack from snakes are now receiving treatment in hospitals and herbal homes.

In 2013, about 3,828 people were treated for snake bites in Gombe State, forcing the government to put into motion process to build a snake hospital to cater for victims of snakebite from Taraba, Gombe, Adamawa, Bauchi and Cameroon.

Confirming the report, Counselor representing Suntai Ward, Filibuster Sambo said the casualty was that much as some of the treatment were not effective.

According to him, four people died in Suntai, eight in Kadarco, nine in Tor-Damis Akate, four in Kumbo and two in Gayama.

“About 27 people have so far died of snakebites in our community”, he said.
