Nigeria, June 20, 2016 – Former Secretary to Edo State Government, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has emerged candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the primaries held today at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State.
IZE-IYAMU PICKS PDP TICKET, TO TACKLE OBASEKI IN SEPTEMBER
Ize-Iyamu polled 584 of the 740 delegates to clinch the ticket. Ize-Iyamu emerged just 24 hours after Godwin Obaseki emerged candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC). The two candidate will test their popularity in September 10, when the governorship election will take place.
Obaseki polled 1,618 votes. His closest rival was the deputy governor of the state, Dr. Pius Odubu who polled 471 votes, Mr. Kenneth Imasuagbon polled 247 votes, Dr. Chris Ogienwonyi 137 votes, while Gen. Charles Airhiavbere polled 11 votes.
In today’s PDP primaries, a total of 740 delegates voted with delegates drawn from the 192 wards in the state.
Those who contested the primaries were a former Secretary to the State Government, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu; a former member of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen; and the candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party in the 2012 governorship election, Mr.Solomon Edebiri.
The exercise was chaired by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi.
