Nigeria, May 19, 2016 – Protest by the Ayuba Waba led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress and other members of the civil society groups this afternoon cause a major traffic logjam in and around the seat of government in Alausa.

The labour union who were protesting the increase in pump price of petrol used their vehicles to block Obafemi Awolowo Road the major link to Alausa secretariat leading to confusion in the area.

Most motorists were in the traffic as a result of the labour protest for hours forcing some people to trek long distances.

We gathered that a combined team of anti riot policemen were later deployed to the major road leading to ‎Governors office and barricaded the area. This was to prevent the protesters from accessing the Governors office to cause any damage.

The labour union members who were chatting solidarity songs urged Nigerians to support the strike against what they called unpopular government policy. “Say not to N145 per litre of petrol; Say no to inhuman increase”, some of the placards read.
