Nigeria, May 09, 2016 – A group known as Niger Delta Concerned Professional(NDCP) has called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency appoint an indigene of Akwa ibom state as substantive managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC) without further delay.

Coordinator of the group Mr. Napoleon Adah told newsmen in Port Harcourt after a meeting that the law establishing the commission made it clear that the position will be rotated amongst the core South South states and wondered why the case will be different when it is the turn of Akwa Ibom State.

He said the law of equity and fair play should be applied to enable a man from Akwa Ibom to take up the job of MD, NNDC.
Adah recalled that Barr. Dan Abia was appointed in December 2013 but was relieved of the appointment in December 2015 with no reason.

“We are therefore calling on the authorities concerned to do the needful by appointing an indigene of the state as the commission’s managing director to avoid unhealthy rivalry with other states from the region”, he said.

Adah also used the medium to call on well-meaning citizens of the region to call on the Federal Government to act according to the Act establishing the commission as regards the appointment of the position of the managing director.
It will be recalled that a group of lawyers from Akwa ibom state two weeks ago dragged President Muhammad Buhari, President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Sasaki and Speaker of the House, Yakubu , Dogara and SFG to court over appointment of substantive MD of NDDC.
