Nigeria, April 27, 2016 – The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) is no doubt one of the best teaching hospitals in Nigeria based on the billions of Naira that has been invested in the past nine years bring it to current standard.
LASUTH: TEACHING HOSPITAL LACKING CLEANERS ON SUNDAY
But the level of transformation in terms of physical infrastructure and equipment seem not to have been matched with expected level of cleanliness that leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
Last Sunday our correspondent was at the male surgical ward in the hospital to visit a patient who has just had a successful surgical operation and was recuperating at about 4:30pm.
Besides him lay an elderly man recovering from a successful surgical operation of a blocked and twisted intestine. Besides his bed lies a pale of blood as nurses attempt to direct excess blood out of his body to ease the recovery process.
But just an arm stretch is another bed without any patient littered with caked blood stains.
“ What is this mess’’, our correspondent said in amazement, pointing to the offensive sight on the bed. “It has been there since yesterday and nobody had removed it. We learnt that the cleaners don’t work on Sunday”, a lady who passed the night in the ward by her husband told our correspondent.
She added that doctors and nurses have been coming in and out of the ward yet nothing has been done to remove that awful sight. We reproduce the pictures here.
