FUEL SCARCITY: CIVIL SOCIETIES PROTEST, CALL ON BUHARI TO RESIGN
Nigeria, April 7, 2016 – Members of the civil societies in Edo State today protested against the lingering fuel scarcity in Nigeria, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari who doubles as Minister of Petroleum to resign.
The protesters who walked along major streets in Benin called on President whom they said has travelled out of Nigeria 28 times since May 29 to sit down at home and resolve the lingering fuel crisis or resign.
The Civil Societies protested just as lawyers threatened to institute a suit compelling the National Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against the President Buhari if he fails to resolve the fuel crisis by the end of Thursday.
Speaking on Raypower, Human Rights Lawyer, Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa stated he will institute a case against Buhari in court by next week. He attributed the lingering fuel crisis to refusal by Buhari to pay subsidy adding that the result is bureaucratic bottleneck , which he said account for the lingering scarcity.
Also speaking, Elder Statesman, Mr. Femi Okunrunmu however said that what is needed is not a legal action but for Nigerians from all walks of life to march into major streets to the capital and the State Houses of Assembly and register their displeasure about the fuel scarcity.
