Japan – April 15, 2016 – At least 9 people have been confirmed killed and hundreds of others injured when an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit Tokyo, Japan.
9 KILLED, OVER 800 INJURED AS EARTHQUAKE HITS JAPAN
The quake which occurred at 9.30 pm on Thursday in the Japanese island of Kyushu, affected infrastructures including roads and buildings, and knocking out power supply a government officials said.
They added that about 800 people have been treated for injuries and that the aftershocks forced some 40,000 people into temporary shelters where they passed the night.
Rescue operation was still ongoing Friday morning. Authorities in Kumamoto said several people have been rescued from collapsed buildings, even though the level of devastation was less in the area.
The force of the quake was so massive that it reportedly knocked off rail an out-of-service Shinkansen bullet train.
