Nigeria, February 25, 2016 – The Lagos State Government said the restriction order on human and vehicular movement during the February Environmental Sanitation Exercise has been lifted.
LAGOS CANCELS FEBRUARY 2016 SANITATION FOR UTME
In a statement late Thursday evening, Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare said the restriction in movement was lifted to allow students, invigilators and other stakeholders participate effectively in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) organized by Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) holding on Saturday, February 27, 2016.
He said the usual sanitation exercise should be observed by residents in their homes, but that residents are free to move around during the exercise.
The commissioner said that it becomes imperative for the Lagos State Government to waive the restriction order so as not to jeopardize the future of the candidates whose counterparts in other parts of the federation will write the same examination.
“As a responsible and responsive government, we value the education of our children very dearly and therefore resolved to relax the order in the interest of the future leaders of tomorrow,” Adejare added.
He urged Lagosians to actively participate in the February sanitation exercise, despite the lifting of the restriction and that the focus should be on cleaning of drains in view of the fast approaching rainy season.’’
