Nigeria, February 03, 2016 – Indications that MTN Nigeria Ltd is not willing to pay the $3.9 billion imposed on it by Nigeria Communication Commission(NCC) emerged today, when the telecommunication company announced that it has hired, former US Attorney General, Eric Holder to defend it.

According to Financial Times, the former US Attorney General Eric Holder pleaded with Nigerian officials last month on behalf of the telecoms company.

MTN had lobbied for 25 percent reduction in the fine from $5.2 billion to $3.9 billion.
MTN has up to March 18, 2016 to settle the fine. Holder was Attorney General from 2009 to 2015 and was one of President Barack Obama’s longest-serving cabinet members.
