Blind student take computer-based examination in Oregon, US

Not less than 1, 569, 175 candidates are sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Examination scheduled to commence from Saturday, February 27, 2016 and for the next 14 days.

The computer-based examination will be written in 529 centres with Imo State recording the highest among students sitting for the examination. Imo State is putting up 102, 727 students followed by Osun State with 83,060. Oyo State is third with 81, 065 students sitting for the exam.

The Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has the lowest number with just 5,069 students sitting for the examination.
In a statement, Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor ‘Dibu Ojerinde said a total of 201 virtually impaired students registered for the examination and that they will sit for the examination in all state capitals.

”Candidates are once again warned that the use of handsets or any communication gadgets in and around the Examination Venues is prohibited.

“Anyone found with such gadgets would be deemed to have been engaged in Examination Malpractice as outlined in the provisions of the Examination Malpractice Decree No. 33 of 1999”, he said adding that no candidate should come to the centres with writing materials.

”Let me state here that candidates are allowed to change their choices of institutions and courses only once. This change has to be effected within two [2] weeks after the results are released”, he said, adding that the UTME examination will commence from Saturday, 27th February, 2016.

“This exercise is expected to last not more than 14 days. This is the first examination we are conducting under this administration and the Board want to use this opportunity to commend the Federal Government, the Press and all Stakeholders for the support it has given to the Board in ensuring that its activities are successful”, he said.
