January 26, 2016 – Organisers of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon have outlined mouth-watering incentives for those taking part in the race with prizes for the first 10 runners to finish the race.
WINNER ACCESS BANK LAGOS CITY MARATHON TO POCKET $50,000
Speaking at a joint press conference in Lagos, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde said the winner will pocket $50,000 and $40,000 for second best runner while the third person will take home $30,000.
He said the 4th person will collect $20,000, $15,000 for 5th person, $10,000 for the 6th person, $8,000 for the 7th best runner, $6,000 for 8th best, $4,000 for the 9th best runner and $2,000 for the 10th best runner.
He added that if the winners are Nigerians, they will in addition pocket N1 million for the first person, N750,000 for second best, N500,000 for third best, N300,000 for 4th best, N200,000 for 5th best, N100,000 for 6th best, N75,000 for 7th, N50,000 for 8th best, N40,000 for 9th best and N20,000 each for 10th and 11th best runners.
He said the marathon will kick off at 7:30 am on Saturday, February 6th at Western Avenue, in front of the National Stadium Surulere, opposite Teslim Balogun Stadium and terminate at Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, Lagos.
General Manager for the Lagos race, Mr. Yussuf Alli stated that the athletes who have duly completed their registration forms will start getting their bib numbers form 12 noon at the Lagos City Marathon Expo Centre at Omolade Okoya Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
He said a number of top world class runners including 50 elite runners and 120 Nigerian elite runners will take part in the race expected to accommodate about 25,000 people.
Alli advised participants to come with proof of identification when coming to collect their numbers.
He stated that peradventure, participants intend to have their running number collected on their behalf; the person collecting it must come to the Marathon office with the print out copy of the form or the final confirmation received by e-mail.
“They must have proof of their identity in order to do this.” Alli stated.
Corporate organizations expected at the Expo include Access Bank the title sponsor of Lagos City Marathon, GSK, Ladel’s Baby Centre, Airtel, another sponsor of the marathon, Food Clique, Oniru Family, Eko Hotel, Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, SuperSport and a host of others.
Oando is also one of those sponsoring the event.
