January 5, 2016 – Teachers of public schools in Kwara State, Nigeria have embarked on an indefinite strike to press home their demand for the Kwara State Government to offset their four months’ salary arrears.

The Abdulfatah Ahmed led government of Kwara state is owing teachers and other staff salary arrears in excess of three months.

The teachers embarked on strikes on a day that they are supposed to resume from the long break. We gathered that the inability of the Kwara state Government to pay teachers and other staffs including local government staff is now making difficult for workers to feed, pay house rent and pay school fees for their children who has just resumed.

Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Kwara State, Comrade Yakeen Kareem Agubiande called on the state government to offset the 4 month salary arrears owed teachers and other local government workers.
He said that the governor owes October, November, December including pensioners and health workers.
