January 28, 2016 – Properties worth several millions of Naira were destroyed this morning when fire ravaged Jakande Market, Ikosi, Ketu.

He said that though the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the incident affected the planks section, banana section and the area where tyres are sold.
“Three vehicles and several shops were completely razed down, but no life was lost and nobody sustained injury but goods worth fortunes were burnt”, we burnt, he said.
He added that the combined effort of LASEMA emergency response team and Lagos State Fire service from Alausa and Ilupeju stations were able to curtailed the fire from spreading further and causing more havoc.
“ Also goods worth fortunes were salvaged. RRS were on ground and police officers from Ketu station were also on ground to provide security’’, he said adding that post-operation assessment would be conducted by LASEMA accordingly.
Akindele advised market authorities to put in place safety and emergency preparedness measures such as fire hydrant to avert and adequately respond to fire incidents and other emergencies.
