December 04, 2015 – The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, for prompt payment of November, 2015 salary to civil servants and political appointees in the state.
Dickson had during a live interview programme on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Finance to commence the payment salary to the civil servants and political appointees with immediate effect.
The NUJ in a statement issued on Friday by its Bayelsa State Chairman, John Angese, said in line with the governor’s directives, the civil servants across the state have been paid their November salary.
According to him, the gesture is worthy of commendation amidst the prevailing economic situation in the country.
Angese said Bayelsa state remains one of the few states in the country that is up to date in the payment of salary without applying for bailout funds from the Federal Government.
He commended the governor for living up to his electoral promises, especially on the issue concerning the welfare of workers in the state, adding that with this development, the governor has further endeared himself to the hearts of the teeming workers in the state.
It will be recalled that, the governor during the live interview programme restated his commitment to the welfare of workers in the state.
Unfolding his plan for the workers in the state, thegovernor said his administration would concentrate on capacity building, which include training and re-training of workers as well as provision of low cost housing and implementation of the civil service health insurance scheme.
