December 22, 2015- Chairman of the Lagos Waste Management Service Providers’ Forum, Apostle Akin Adewole has assured that following a fresh resolve between his group and the State Ministry of the Environment his men will more than ever before ensure that “the Lagos Metropolis will regain its sparkle and cleanliness before the New Year rolls in”.

Apostle Adewole gave the assurance during an Interactive meeting of PSP Operators, Highway Managers and the State Ministry of the Environment at the Transfer Loading Station of LAWMA in Agege at the weekend.

Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare appealed to the waste managers to join hands with the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in its commitment to rid the state filth and ensure a cleaner and healthier environment, stressing that “a clean and healthy environment is capable of attracting more investors to boost the economy of the state”.

Adejare urged the managers to respond to their responsibilities of clearing the waste generated by the citizenry in the state, warning that any operators who is not efficient with his truck will be dismissed.
According to him, Lagosians must shun the habits of indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the roads, highways and drainages but imbibe the habit of proper bagging of wastes for easy collection by the operators. He disclosed that the government will soon establish a mobile court to try who refuse to pay their PSP dues.

The Commissioner also warned residents against patronising cart pushers, adding that the refuse collected by them are usually dumped in canal and drainages and eventually ending up in the waterways.

“If the economic potentials in the waste sector in the state were properly harnessed it would help in creating employment opportunities and generating more revenue for the state government”.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Environment, Mr. Babatunde Hunpe had implored the operators to go back to their duties and ensure a cleaner environment.
