October 31, 2015 – Egyptian officials today confirmed that all 224 crew and passengers on board the Russian airliner that crashed on Central Sinai are dead.
Russian airliner KGL9268, an Airbus A-321 took off from Sharm el-Sheikh on its way to the Russian city of St Petersburg but crashed on the Central Sinai, Egyptian officials have said.
According to officials, on board the plane were 138 women and 17 children aged between 2 and 17 while seven were crew members.
A further breakdown shows that 214 of the passengers were Russian while three are from Ukraine.
So far wreckage of the plane has been discovered with bodies and plane’s recorder otherwise called “black box” removed. Officials say bodies of victims were still strapped to their seats.
Speaking at a press conference, Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister Hossam Kamel said the plane suddenly disappeared from the radar even as terrorists claimed they brought it down. Speaking on the crash, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov dismissed claim that terrorists brought down the plane by using anti-aircraft missile.
Prime Minister of Egypt, Mr. Sherif Ismail said no irregular activities were responsible for the crash and confirmed that there was no survivor.
