LAWMA sweepers protest 5 months salary arrears
September 8, 2015 – Street sweepers employed by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority(LAWMA) are not happy with the Lagos State Government.
The sweepers in their tens stormed Alausa, the seat of government on Monday, protesting 5 months salary arrears which they said the state government is owing them.
The sweepers who earn a meagre salary of N12,000 per month said they are being owed by the Ministry of Environment salary arrears to the tune of five months.
The workers who stromed the Lagos State House of Assembly, some well kitted said they have been deprived of their means of livelihood.
One of the sweepers who gave her name as Grace told www.starconnectmedia.com that they are surprised that the state government could owe them even when their salary is so small.
She said that they wake up every day and try as much as possible to get to their duty post in the sun or rain to ensure that Lagos is kept clean yet their salaries have remained upaid.
She said some of the sweepers have been killed on duty.
