September 3, 2015 – A former chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Timi Alaibe has described as baseless, news linking him with the death of former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), in Bayelsa State, Mr. Sam Inokoba.
The media had been awash with news that the former chairman died in Alaibe’s Lagos home during the week,
But in a statement, signed by one of his aides, Mr. Nwokoma Ndu, he described the reports as “baseless, malicious and wicked”.
The statement said the former NDDC chief who recently defected to the All Progressive Congress(APC)was in Abuja and could not have been responsible for Mr. Inokoba’s death.
He accused the PDP-led state government of being behind the allegation against him.
“How can somebody who has been in Abuja all week suddenly appear in Lagos for a ghost meeting?.
“It is evident from the hate stories emanating from the pro-PDP media in the state that they want to look for every opportunity to nail Alaibe due to their fear that he will beat the governor in the December elections if he gets the APC nomination,” the statement said.
On allegations that he offered money to some of the aspirants to pave way for his emergence as APC flagbearer, he asked, how can a man they described as broke suddenly be offering huge money? “How far will they go in their bid to bring down the personality of Timi Alaibe?”, the statement said.
He advised Nigerians and residents of Bayelsa to be wary of such wicked propaganda from the Bayelsa State government which he said is born out of mischief.
“No matter the blackmail, the former adviser to former President Jonathan will win the APC nomination and then go ahead to defeat the incumbent governor in the state”, the statement said.
