August 18, 2015 – National Secretary of Labour Party(LP), Barr. Kayode Ajulo has debunked media reports of internal crisis tearing the party apart. Ajulo who spoke with reporters said there is no crisis whatsoever in the party.

“We are intact, the leadership cohesion is solid and very strong. Labour Party is one, and will remain so”, he said.

He said that the story behind the so called crisis is not unconnected with the resurfacing of the certificate of registration of the party which was initially declared missing.

“This is a certificate that has brought about some issues for years. There has been questions on who should have the custody of the certificate. However, it is clear that a mere hood will never make a monk. For instance, I am a lawyer and your taking possession of my law degree certificates will never make you a lawyer except you fulfill all the necessary steps to become a lawyer”, he said.

He explained that Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko is no longer a member of the party.

“The man left the party last year with his entire people. Like I said earlier, a lot of these unsubstantiated reports are spawned by the numerous platforms online. Then again, there are mischievous elements that peddle falsehood, seeking the emergence of crises so that they can find relevance. There is no truth to that report at all”, he insisted.

He said there is no controversy in the relationship between the party and the Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC).

“As the workers party, we are fully aware of our role as sensitizers of the people. We realize that the workers rely on us to give them a credible platform for political participation and of course here in Labour Party, no one is discriminated against. Our relationship with workers is mutually-benefitting one; Nigerian workers need us as we need Nigerian workers therefore it is expected that we have cordial relationship with organized labour as spearheaded by NLC & TUC”, he said.
